Eduardo Faradje

Eduardo Faradje was born in Buenos Aires in 1957. A descendent of a family of immigrants, he came form Greek and Polish stock. Eduardo immersed himself in painting from the early age of eleven. Through choice, he attended classes of still life in oils, given by a friend of his parents. In 1975 he decided to further his artistic education at the Asociacion Estimulo de Bellas Artes; here he learned only to paint still life, but also to perfect his life drawing. He later won numerous awards for his work.

In 1986 Eduardo Faradje exhibited in his first exhibition, where he presented a series of drawings and watercolours, as part of a three-man show. In 1988 the young artist made his way to Madrid, Spain, to attend a private academy where he was taught, in his words ‘the old-fashion way’ the structure of which he feels has greatly changed today. He soaked up the almost Medieval seriousness of the old country. Today his work is deliberately & happily conventional, but properly modern too. In his spare time he would spend hours in the ‘Prado’ copying the great masters, especially Valazquez and El Greco. Eduardo spent almost three years in Europe, until 1990 when he returned to Argentina. After two years of intense working he had his first solo exhibition. This was the beginning: from that year on he has been exhibited all over the United States as well as in his homeland.

Faradje is obsessed by, and expert in, the age-old business of getting paints to talk about flesh and light. It is work in an unbroken tradition from the old masters through moderns like our own Walter Sickert or the American Thomas Eakins. The modern lineage might also include very directly Stanley Spencer and Lucian Freud. Faradje is fascinating because his work, from the Latin American World, comes laden with a deliberate homage to classical Spanish influence.

Eduardo’s oils are luminous with occasional gleams of vivid colour. His life-sized women turn their mouths downward with expressions that convey more disdain than gloom. Faradje’s nudes are a triumph; they convey proper devotion to reality, but also the eloquence of the human form.

On October 1,1998 Eduardo Faradje’s first London Solo Exhibition opened at the Albemarle Gallery. A remarkable collection of nudes and portraits, never before seen in Great Britain. H.E. Senor Rogelio Pfirter, the Ambassador of the Argentine Republic has kindly agreed to open the exhibition.
