Alice Dalton Brown was born in Danville, Pennsylvania in 1939, and grew up in Ithaca, New York. She began her studies in France at L’Académie Julian, Paris and at L’Université de Grenoble, Grenoble. She then entered Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, as an English major, and later transferred to Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, where, in 1962, she received the B.A. degree in art. She lived in New York City from 1970 to 2005 and now resides in New York’s Hudson Valley.
