Bill Manley

Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Bill Manley moved to New Orleans over 20 years ago.  It was in New Orleans that Bill began to pursue his art. For years Manley studied under Karl Krammer who was a painter and sculptor renowned for his etched glass plates for the Vatican.   After Krammer’s death, Manley began successfully exhibiting his work at art shows throughout the French Quarter.

In 2005, Manley had a show in the “Bank One” building in the Garden District of New Orleans. When Hurricane Katrina hit, Manley evacuated the city. He assumed it would just be for a few days. Manley’s house was in the Holy Cross Historical District near the industrial canal levee that broke. He lost everything except the paintings that were hanging in the Bank One building. Manley was able to sell the entire collection. With this sale, he was able to purchase a small home in rural Maryland where he now lives and paints.

New Orleans continues to be a source of inspiration for Manley. His original oils often depict scenes of the city. Manley uses distortion and exaggeration to keep his viewers engaged. His painterly technique with large, gestural brushstrokes creates constant movement in his paintings.
