Dolores Santoliquido

For over twenty-seven years, Dolores Santoliquido has enjoyed a career in commercial art, but since 1990 she has returned to painting the subject matter that she has the greatest passion for, the delicate beauty of the botanical world.

Dolores works in watercolor, graphite, pen & ink and specializes in a unique style that incorporates mixed media acrylic and color pencil. This is an exacting technique, which enables her to establish a great deal of control over the media. Dolores became fascinated with this process since it allows her to execute minute details and create a vibrancy of color.

Dolores is an adjunct professor of illustration at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, and is an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, New York. She has taught at the Humboldt Institute in Stuben, Maine and instructed workshops demonstrating her technique for the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and the Smithsonian Institute. She holds a BFA degree with Departmental Honors from Manhattanville College. Dolores is an active member of the American Society of Botanical Illustrators and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. Born and raised in Westchester County, Ms. Santoliquido currently resides in Brookfield, CT.

Ms. Santoliquido's work has been published extensively in books produced by Taunton Press, Chanticleer Press, The Reader's Digest Association, Crown Publishers, Random House Publishers, William Morrow Company, Weight Watcher's International, Knopff Publishers, Simon and Schuster, and Silver Burdett. Dolores has produced natural science signage for the New York Botanical Garden, The Brooklyn Botanical Garden, The Conservation of Trust of Puerto Rico, the Wildlife Conservation Society/Bronx Zoo Reptile House, The Central Park Zoo Tropical Bird House and Tinicum National Wildlife Refuge.

Ms. Santoliquido's exacting illustrations have been exhibited in several one woman show including: Watson Gallery, New York Botanical Garden, The Bartlett Arboretum, Stamford, CT, and the Congressional Offices of Congressman John Reed, Cranston, RI. Dolores' work has been exhibited in group shows including: a GNSI exhibit at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, The New York Natural History Conference III, Albany, NY, "Botanical Watercolors" at the Nicholas Davies & Company Gallery, NYC, The New York Horticultural Society, NYC, The GingerTree Gallery, Stamford, CT, The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. and "Nature Painted" at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. Dolores' work is included in private collections in the United States and Canada.
